If you’re conducting a poll, I’m probably not the person to talk to.
My record of prognostications is spotty at best. While I did pick John Bel Edwards to win both his gubernatorial races and I predicted LSU would beat ‘Bama last fall, my crowning failure was, after watching Donald Trump descend that escalator in Trump Tower back in 2015, laughing and predicting (and these are the exact words I used), “He’ll crash and burn in six weeks.”
Wrong, wrong, wrong. Intensely disliking either candidate, I muttered in stunned disbelief as I watched the returns on election night, “The S.O.B. is gonna win.”
I also predicted after his election that he would be impeached “within 18 months because Republicans in Congress will need to separate themselves from him.” And while he was impeached, it took a little longer than 18 months and with the exception of Sen. Mitt Romney, the Republicans have instead cleaved unto him like barnacles to the hull of an ocean liner.
So, now that:
- he’s been acquitted (as we all knew he would);
- Now that the Louisiana Republican Party has officially—and shamelessly—censured Sen. Mitt Romney for placing principles and country before party;
- Trump has begun the purge of the castle that once was the White House with the firing of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, his twin brother, Lt. Col. Yevgeny Vindman (collateral damage, it would seem), and Ambassador Gordon Sondland, his million-dollar contribution to the Trump presidential inaugural committee notwithstanding;
- Trump’s Attorney General William Barr (notice I said Trump’s AG and not the U.S. AG—because that distinction must be made) has intervened in the sentencing of Trump buddy Roger Stone (prompting the immediate resignation of four Justice Department attorneys—and gotten away with it with the apparent blessings of a subservient Republican Party,
I make the following predictions:
- In his second term, he is going to become even more brazen in his complete seizure of the U.S. government with more and more power grabs until he will become the first president to be impeached twice.
- His second term actions will be so controversial and so illegal that the only Republicans who will continue to support him (provided they’re all still in office themselves) will be Moscow Mitch McConnell, Contortionist-in-Chief Lindsey Graham, Fake Investigator-in-Chief Devin Nunes and Ohio State sexual abuse Protector-in-Chief Jim Jordan.
- His second-term takeover attempt will be so egregious that even Louisiana’s own Sen. Kornpone Kennedy will walk away from him after a few well-chosen words of wisdom for the TV networks to further embarrass his home state.
- He will be the first president to be impeached and convicted—unless, of course, he negotiates a pardon for himself and does a Nixon and walks away
So, there you have it. Print this out, fold it up and keep it in your wallet/purse so you can either mock me mercilessly at some date in the future or choose me as Political Pundit of the Century.
There can be no middle ground. Humiliation or glory, fame or infamy.
For now, though, I’m feeling pretty confident in the accuracy of my assessment of the political horizon.
But remember, my record is pock-marked with extraordinary misses—which makes me about as accurate as any other so-called expert (ex: a has-been; spurt: a drip under pressure).
I do so hope that your prediction does not become reality. I don’t think America can ever recover from two Trump terms. I am not even sure we can recover from his one term. Putin must be so pleased with his work.
The left wing of the Democratic Party will not win the primaries. A centrist will be nominated who will defeat Trump. One who will appeal to independents, moderate Republicans, suburban women, and minority groups. And one who will have or raise the money needed to mount a powerful national campaign. Bloomberg? Klobuchar? A ticket of both? The Senate is more muddled. So, now we both have our predictions for posterity. Hope I am right. But you are certainly correct about what Trump would do if reelected.
You couldn’t be any more wrong. 140k sealed indictments will be unleashed. CEO’s that have committed fraud and crimes against our country will continue to resign in record numbers. Sex and drug trafficking will continue to be stopped at record paces. The swamp is being drained. Major politicians that sold out our country to China, Israel, Iran, etc will be tried in military tribunals. Major players that participated in a known coup against the President will be tried as enemy combatants, including Vindman, Schiff, Nadler, McCabe, Strzok, etc. For someone that supposedly looks at things objectively, you’re way off.
You’ll see Hollywood elites, DC politicians, and church clergy be implicated in sex trafficking and connected to Epstein.
You’ll see black communities changed for the better. Fathers are coming home from prison. Jobs are being created in record numbers, and the flow of drugs that have destroyed these communities are drying up. The world is changing. Wake up and enjoy America becoming great again. 2020 is gonna be amazing.
Oh..and Trump soundly wins 48 states in the general.
You talking about the Philippines or the U.S.?
Think fairness, he/she/it is talking about Russia.
My goodness! Your predictions make Tom’s pale by comparison. I thought he was trying to be provocative with his but you’re being totally absurd with yours. 140k indictments? That smacks of a political purge if anything ever did. And if Trump stops or even significantly slows sex- and drug-trafficking, I’ll give him full credit but the truth is as long as there’s a demand, there will be a supply. For every mile of wall that goes up, another 100 feet of tunnels gets dug. Book it. I, too, am afraid Trump will win in 2020, but he certainly won’t carry 48 states. You’re dreaming on that one. Drain the swamp? Really? You think so? It’s more like he’s re-stocking the swamp with more alligators and snakes. Draining the swamp indeed. Sold our country to Israel? It seems as if that’s precisely what Trump is doing. Most observers believe Obama snubbed Israel rather than selling out to them. You need to review your history.
And if Trump so much as tries to bring anyone to trial for testifying against him, especially Vindman, McCabe, et al, you may not see a second impeachment because the 25th Amendment will be invoked.
But you’re probably correct in predicting more will be implicated in the Epstein ring but hey, that could include Trump along with Bill Clinton and a few others (but no pizza parlor in D.C.) and I hope we do see CEOs resigning when implicated in fraud but what’s that got to do with Trump and draining the swamp? But 140k indictments. I have to ask you to share how you arrived at that incredible number. You really had to drill down deep to come up with that.
Fredster just proved he is incapable of a rational thought. Russia? Really? Or Is it Ukraine? Because the 2 countries have complete polar opposite interests. In Trump’s second term that he wins by a landslide, you’ll discover that Russia was Democratic projection. It was Democrats that wanted Putin to know they’d have more flexibility after the election. Putin made Obama his bitch. The last thing Putin wants is an energy exporting US with a revitalized military fortified by $2T in spending. I’m sorry but you cannot be this clueless.
Obama was Putin’s bitch? Really? And just how would you classify Trump in that scenario? Remember the Helsinki meeting? Remember his comments about want to be Putin’s “best friend”? Ya gotta love how the Trump supporters accuse critics of picking on Trump while you obsess over Obama who, btw, became president at the onset of the Great Recession and oversaw job growth and economic recovery from the Bush debacle. You can deny that all you like, but it doesn’t change the facts. And I know you’ll cite Obama’s diplomatic failures like Benghazi while refusing to acknowledge Trump’s diplomatic blunders like getting a passenger jet shot down and more than 100 Americans with severe head injuries as a result of his take down of Qasem Soleimani. All you want to talk about with Trump is the good economy, so let’s do that: keep the debate on the economy and compare the two just on that one issue. Obama’s job of bringing the economy back from the brink of a depression and Trump’s inheriting a robust economy from the president you hate because he’s…..black.
Russia’s bitch? LOL!
My money is on “Fairness 2014”.
Tom is possibly correct on additional impeachment efforts if Pelosi maintains her position as Speaker (which is doubtful) they will continue to make sham efforts to make a case where none exist but I think Trump’s re-election will take back the House again and stop this nonsense.
Have you guys stood back from your blind hatred to see exactly what the Democrat Party actually stands for ? Certainly not the American citizens.
Uh, yes, I have stood back to see what the Democrat Party stands for. It stands for a higher minimum wage (Trump doesn’t), health care for those who can’t afford it (Trump wants to cut Medicare benefits), a safer environment (Trump wants to remove clean air and water laws), tighter background checks on the sale of semi-automatic weapons (Trump has been ambivalent on this at best), equal rights for all (Trump embraces the KKK), protection of social security benefits (benefits that we paid for that Trump, again, wants to remove or reduce), tighter regulations on Wall Street bankers who were responsible for the 2008 crash (Trump wants to remove protections), access to affordable college educations for all (and you disagree with that perhaps?). Now, to be sure, many of the planks being advocated by Bernie and Elizabeth are simply unworkable and will never pass anyway but you know, Trump promised quite a bit that he has done 180s on, so just what do Republicans stand for—besides interference with the Justice Department, interference with a foreign government (and Trump did it, no matter what you say), protecting sexual abusers at Ohio State (Jim Jordan), paying off hookers (Trump), initiating bogus investigations (Devin Nunes—more “bogus” than any “witch hunt” impeachment investigation), (Lindsey Graham) failing to defend a dead friend when Trump attacked the deceased friend (McCain), firing officials who testify under oath, and the list goes on and is continuing to go on.
Zoe, I perceive you to be an intelligent person who is led by misguided loyalty when the truth is, none of us should be providing across-the-board, unconditional defenses of ANY politician. They all spin the truth in their own favor and their primary concern is re-election, not their country. That’s both parties and if you’re honest with yourself, you know that. I can’t believe that you would accept as gospel every sound bite from a Republican and automatically dismiss everything said by a Democrat. That’s not objectivity and I can’t help but believe you know better.
I am amazed that while you scorch the Republican Party in which I know they have there faults, you as a typical Democratic and media type never down play the Democrat’s acts of stupidness. But as part of the media, I understand your bias. You media types just can’t help yourself and your hatred for our current president.
Did you even read the post? I believe Mr. Aswell made it clear that he “intensely disliked” both candidates in 2016. That reads like equal-opportunity criticism to me. But as a Trump kool aid drinker, I understand your bias. You just can’t help yourself and your hatred of any criticism of our current president.
Wow…I do think this may be one of the leading TDS sites in the nation! Those “poor souls” that continue to support the President ( yes…he is your President too ) do a daily lament of their pesky low unemployment rates, as well as the astronomical 401k returns they are recieving ( something working folks get ). Can’t wait until Bernie or Pete wins the nomination so American voters can flush socialism down the drain once and for all. At least you admit that Trump will win in November…so thanks for that.
Anyone can make a prediction as you just did so let me do a 180 degree on you and disagree with you and one of us is going to be right in the end. Here is not wishing you luck. LOL!
Didn’t you read my disclaimer? I said I wasn’t very good at prognostication (but I am an excellent procrastinator).
Good job Tom! I just returned from a briefing at Ft Polk and budget “cuts” were hot topic but I was not allowed to comment about wall. I did present some thoughts about Museums: Sputnick, Espionage, and Oaths. will email to you ron thompson
