“I was the first & only potential GOP candidate to state there will be no cuts to Social Security, Medicare & Medicaid. [Former Arkansas Gov.] Huckabee copied me.”
—Donald Trump tweet, May 7, 2015.
“The Republicans who want to cut SS & Medicaid are wrong. A robust economy will Make America Great Again!”
—Donald Trump tweet, July 11, 2015
“I am going to save Medicare and Medicaid, Carson wants to abolish, and failing candidate Gov. John Kasich doesn’t have a clue – weak!”
—Donald Trump tweet, Oct. 30, 2015.
“All Republicans support people with pre-existing conditions, and if they don’t, they will after I speak to them. I am in total support. Also, Democrats will destroy your Medicare, and I will keep it healthy and well!”
—Donald Trump tweet, Oct. 18, 2018.
“Democrats are going to destroy your Social Security. I have totally left it alone, as promised, and will save it!”
—Donald Trump tweet, Jan. 23, 2019.
“[Trump’s] budget calls for removing half a trillion dollars of funding from the Medicare program over 10 years, including $135 billion from Medicare prescription drugs, and tens of billions from the Social Security program.
“In 2015, he promised not to touch Medicaid, either. Now he wants to cut it by $920 billion. He also promised to balance the budget and retire the national debt. The debt has grown by about $3 trillion since Trump took office and the budget plan would add more than $5 trillion to it over the next decade. There is currently more than $20 trillion in government debt.”
—Washington Post, Feb. 10, 2020.
[Trump also supports ongoing litigation that would disqualify recipients with pre-existing conditions.]
It is a proven fact that Trump lies all of the time about everything. The problem is why can’t his followers, especially those that take the brunt of his lies, see this? Therein lies our problem!
Fortunately, it has been Congress’s general practice to throw a President’s budget proposal in the trash and come up with their own appropriations bills. Unfortunately, he has veto power (but not line-item power like our governor) that can lead to stalemates and continuing resolutions over long periods of time, making funding uncertain. He also has a solid majority in the Senate (which has to approve appropriations as well as the House) who will do whatever he asks them to do. So, his budget proposal has no power, but his control of the Senate and joy in disrupting things work to keep things up in the air – the way he seems to like it.
As far as his lying is concerned, Edith summed that up quite well. Nobody should take anything he says to the bank and, if they do, they are behaving stupidly.
And Mr. Aswell has summed it up perfectly.
And unequivocally documented it using the President’s own words.
Ah…those untruthful words that just pop out of his mouth. BUT, as he said, “I’m very highly educated, I know words, I have the best words…” Mar 16, 2017
Of course, the people who will suffer the most from these cruel proposed cuts are the very ones who will believe trump’s lies, parrot his lies by excoriating Democrats and anyone who opposes trump, and will vote for him no matter what. Many who oppose trump are better situated…but we take the heat for trying to protect those who stand to lose the most.
During the jindal murder of our former outstanding charity system of healthcare and state run mental health facilities, a woman I know was in despair because the healthcare services she needed to survive were no longer available to her as she was didn’t qualify for Medicaid, and her little daughter, who had been on LA CHIP but was no longer eligible, needed a lifesaving operation the family could not afford to pay for. When I remarked that the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare, would provide access to healthcare, she verbally attacked me because she didn’t want the government taking over her healthcare. I asked her who she thought paid for Medicaid and LA CHIP, the tooth fairy? She was shocked to learn those are federal programs managed by the states. I decided stupid people oughta look out for themselves, especially when they can’t wait to vote for the very people who took away their benefits. Yep, she voted for jindal and hated Obama, but loved it when Gov. Edwards expanded Medicaid. When reminded that JBE is a Democrat she just growled and walked away. Big trump supporter. I don’t argue with such people anymore. I just tell them not to complain to me if they are hellbent on voting for their own destruction.
Oh my goodness…have you ever hit the nail on the head.
One more item regarding healthcare: The U.S. wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and Pakistan have cost American taxpayers $6.4 trillion since they began.
