Between the disaster that was the Iowa Caucases and the train wreck of Nancy Pelosi, the uplifting State of the Union sppech by the President was supportive and reassuring to the American people. Can the Dems simply take a step back and realize that they have alienated American voters?
Anyone can be “uplifting” if they choose to lie about their accomplishments, as Mr. Trump did repeatedly.

The president’s speech was well-crafted deceit and reality TV that could up(lift) his approval ratings. Nancy Pelosi simply showed how she (and others who value our democratic republic and the constitution felt about it),
I have little doubt Trump will ride the tide of his SOTU address and today’s acquittal in the Senate to re-election – and who knows what will happen then?
My only hope now rests with Michael Bloomberg – he is the only candidate with the money (net worth = $60 BILLION) to fight the propaganda Trump supporters so willingly swallow at the cost of our freedom and the foundations of our democratic republic.
We have 3 branches of government, not one, and checks and balances by the legislative branch are fulfillment of the separation of powers doctrine at the heart of our form of government. Arbitration by the judiciary, not in great evidence lately, is the additional safeguard against tyranny by either of the other branches.
Speaking of freedom, I don’t wish cancer on anybody and my best friend died of lung cancer, but having it certainly does not entitle anyone to the Medal of Freedom, particularly in the case of Rush Limbaugh who can claim credit for being the earliest rockstar purveyor of the divisive politics dominating the Trump presidency. He joins Babe Ruth and Elvis in the group of people to whom Trump has awarded this medal. Some of his choices are certainly appropriate. Others seem geared toward his number one effort – self-aggrandizement.
Rest assured Republicans have alienated at least as many people as have Democrats and there’s the rub. Who is even trying to unite us? Is laying down and rolling over to things one detests the only solution in your mind? How has that worked out in history?
So well said! Interesting how my view about Bloomberg has come around to seeing him as our best hope to defeat Trump. Citizens United has truly altered the dynamics of politics. Worse decision on politics the Supreme Court has ever made.

It was certainly a “me the president” and not a “we the people” speech.
Polls this morning show his approval rating at 32% and trending downward.
Of course, I just made that up. Just like so many things he made up last night.
The impeachment trial was a farce from the get go. As for as the State Of The Union speech, who could expect him to do anything but lie to make himself look good and of course his supporters including our beloved senators and representatives from Louisiana swallowed all of it hook, line and sinker.

One photo was the beautiful lady Doctor with two Ukrainian soldiers locked and loaded to escort her to her patients in the conflict zone. It brought tears to my eyes then real anger with the words of our President being recorded by Rudy,Les and Igor “How long can they last without us??” BUT I will continue to “correct” the lies I get from the precious Christians who worship Trump, perhaps in a lower controlled voice or comment. Mr Bloomberg lost to Undecided. How can one support someone who is focused on issues like the size of soft drinks and sodium allowed in one’s food ? The same guy surrounded by gun toting bodyguards claims to be anti-gun. Apparently democrats are simply desperate. Trump will be re-elected easily.
Did you happen to catch any of President Trump’s remarks at the prayer breakfast and/or acquittal celebration yesterday? If not, transcripts of both are readily available online. How anyone can watch him or read what he said and not have alarms going off is a mystery to me. I can understand why Republican politicians support him – they fear his wrath. I cannot understand how others cannot see the raw danger of such a person at the head of our government. particularly observant people like you.
