“We have to prime the pump. Have you ever heard that expression before? Because I haven’t heard it. I came up with it a couple of days ago and I thought it was good.”
–Donald Trump, in an interview with The Economist.
The Kingston Trio sang about having to “prime the pump” in their 1963 recording of Desert Pete:

…and President Franklin Roosevelt used the expression in describing his efforts to speed recovery from the Great Depression, but the expression actually dates back at least to the 1800s.
Anyone that has lived in a rural area with their own water well, knows how to “prime the pump!” Trump has been so protected from real knowledge and life…
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him think.
Hey Mr. Winham! Did you “come up” with that? No matter, just take credit for it like Trump does. Maybe we could start a list of expressions we’ve “come up” with like our “extinguished” POTUS (the way I just “came up” with that).
Since he can’t think, I can’t call these quotes his thoughts, but can’t help wondering how many he has made like this…or how many people he has insulted or name called along the way. Jeez…
And this from Senator Kornpone yesterday about the impeachment trial:
“The House allegations just continue to be grooming a corpse,” Kennedy said, using a favored colloquialism for useless activity. “The president didn’t act improperly.”
A favored colloquialism? By whom? Kornpone? This is a new one for me and makes no sense, particularly to funeral directors.
and, apparently, Kornpone recycled this one from July:

I guess that is what makes it a “favored colloquialism?”
