Apparently, there are readers of LouisianaVoice who believe:
- I’m a tree-hugging liberal deeply in love with Hillary Clinton (I’m not. I’m a former Republican who, like a week-old puppy, finally opened my eyes—except it took me a little longer than a week.)
- I should limit my observations to Louisiana news and not delve into national politics (I am both a citizen of Louisiana and the U.S. I will opine about national politics whenever it damn-well pleases me.)
- I shouldn’t express opinions because I’m a news blog (Not true. A blog can be about anything its owner wishes to write about. I make no claim to being objective or impartial. That is the freedom afforded me as a blogger as opposed to a regular reporter.)
- I shouldn’t “trash” President Frump because he’s the greatest thing since sliced bread. (The only “trashing” I’ve done is to provide links to real stories that relate what he has done or said. Those pretty much speak for themselves.)
To all those disgruntled folks, here’s the deal I will offer you.
You read The Fifth Risk by Michael Lewis. And I mean read it. Thoroughly. Cover to cover. And if there’s something you don’t understand, read it again. And again.
The book is only about 200 pages, so it shouldn’t be too big a task for you—even those of you who watch Fox News (or should I say Faux News?) for all your information.
The book isn’t about any Russian collusion.
The book isn’t about hordes of Central American rapists/Middle Eastern terrorists invading our border.
The book isn’t about Trump’s myriad conflicts of interests or his golfing vacations or even his tweet storms.
But it is about an ego-driven, self-aggrandizing (Yeah, I know that’s redundant) everything’s all about me court jester who is convinced he knows all the answers and who has systematically gone about proving that he is woefully ill-prepared to be POTUS. It’s about a man whose learning curve is as flat as three-day-old roadkill.
Read the book objectively and with an open mind for once. And then if you can still defend this buffoon, get back to me and we can talk.
Until then, I don’t need to hear your postulating (look it up) about how he is “the greatest president ever.”
Zealots? Oh, you mean those who don’t subscribe to your hyperbole? Yeah, I get it. Careful, you’re going to be back to writing longer posts despite your recent ‘retirement’ and ‘shorter post’ comeback! Oh well, I enjoy most of them. MAGA! 🙂
You’re starting to repeat yourself petey.
Like I said, read the book and then get back to me. Until then, you’re just regurgitating the same old tired Trumpisms.
Its the economy, stupid. Stop me if you’ve heard this…but, in spite of every conspiricy theorist out there, our country is in better financial shape than it was in even under Obama’s predecessor. Socialism and open borders are but two of the other things that I agree with the President on….and yes, there are others. To go left is to further erode our nation spiritually, financially, and morally. #MAGA 2020. # GODBLESSPRESIDENT TRUMP
Please define “socialist.” And be specific. And just for your information, we’ve never had “open borders” and I don’t know anyone who’s advocating it. And finally, let’s see where the economy is a year from now after the tariffs have taken full effect.
Tom, in addition to Trump “playing around with the tariffs”, most economist say the huge national debt will soon begin to take its toll, also. All of the indicators are in place for a recession, possibly beginning in 2019. We would do well to at least consider these warnings.
Outlaw, I beg to differ with your observation!! Trump grabs every A** he passes, define morally, Trump has Excelled in reviving White Supremacy, define Spiritually( what is his “Religion”???) By the way, you mentioned “under Obama’s predecessor” What about Obama’s record?? We are still living under the Positive features of President Obama’s changes !!! Economy, NO. 1 Trump has caused our deficit with the Huge Tax-Breaks for the Ultra wealthy to Sky-Rocket!!! Yes, you picked the correct title…STUPID!!!
Superman you got one thing right in your definition of that Race-Baiting muslim scumbag Obama, and his positive features of change. That idiot tried his best to start another Civil War in this country with his racist hatred, and his declaration of war against our Police. He set the racial divide back past where it stood in this country in the 60’s. To hell with that POS Obama, and that pathological lying drunk, Hillary “hackbag” Clinton, and her pervert husband lil Bill. We came as close as you can, as a nation, without it turning into another Civil War. Of all the qualified African Americans that deserved to be the first black President of the United States, that filthy scumbag slithered his way into the W.H. blocking any hope of another decent African American becoming President for another century or two. Yea, he had a positive effect on this country my ass……………………..
Tom,
You certainly have the right to “opine” on any topic or any individual you wish. I enjoy your perspective on many issues, but would not call you a “ tree-hugging liberal.”
Thanks for recommending the Lewis book. Keep up the good work.
Tom, I don’t think I called you a tree hugging liberal, but I do disagree with you slighting our President, by calling him “Frump”. I agree, he has his faults, but when compared to those eight long years of failure under that “community organizer boy” that couldn’t pour cow piss out of a boot, I have to say President Trump is a breath-of-fresh-air, for millions across the country, and around the world. Our economy is soaring, employment is at an all time, half-century high, and he’s sending troops to the border hopefully to send a strong message that we’re through taking other countries criminal illegal aliens in here to suck on the U.S. welfare tit. So far President Trump is doing exactly what “We the People” elected him to do, and you sure can say that about any previous Presidents I can think of in my lifetime.
Mr. Coyote: I will take issue with one point of yours in particular. That “illegal aliens in here to suck on the U. S. welfare tit” thing – please consider all of the American business folks that just love that cheap illegal labor. I lived in one of the largest Dairying parishes in Louisiana. I witnessed how the Dairy Farmers payed to have a “coyote” herd the workers past immigration check-points, house them in chicken coops, take them to free clinics, buy them dried beans & rice, give them the soured milk, and otherwise abuse them because they worked cheap and were illegal. This Dairy industry is completely gone from here now and the workers that they brought in stayed. Not one government immigration official ever stopped by a dairy, chicken farm, row crop farmer, casinos, or any other place that was actively importing illegal workers. This was and is not a “Democrat policy” – it was and is a part of the economic model. The plan always includes not holding the businesses that employ illegal workers responsible. BTW aliens come from outer space. Immigrants come from other countries.
The breadth and depth of the differences in perceptions of President Trump are often astounding and reflect a very deep divide in this country. I believe President Trump is a clear and present danger to the survival of our country. Others see his as our savior. I often ask myself, “How can this be?”
Surely we all see and hear the same person on television, the Internet, and the radio, read his tweets, and otherwise are all capable of simply taking him (not pundits of any stripe) at face value. So, how can we see him so differently? I’m asking. I don’t have the answer.
The awful truth that bothers me is that those that support Trump completely must have a lot in common with him. The things he says and the way he says them must be their projection of someone speaking for them. Or them finally being able to say what they really have been feeling. I don’t think it is about any of his policies. It is more about his telling off those perceived enemies for them. I was raised to know the breadth and depth of this mentality. Usually it is hidden behind “church”, social clubs, shared interests….but, if one has been quiet and just listens….Trumpism, his hate, bullying, win at all costs, attitudes were always there….now we get to see them out in the open.
Thanks, Ms. Herring, for that clear and very precise, “holier-than-thou”, identity politics lecture. I very much appreciate you informing people of “their projection of someone speaking for them.” It is comforting to know that you were “raised to know the breadth and depth of this mentality” so that you can enlighten those whom you believe suffer from it. It is a great responsibility to be so all-knowing.
If you want better rulers and better democratic/republican government, you’d better start getting better voters and better citizens. That’s not red-blue, that’s human and American.
Thanks, Tom, for pointing the way.
I wish Americans would not personify the issues. I get that actually elected and unelected officers shape and enforce the policies, but often those officers have little or no choice how or whether to do so (or their choices are trumped by higher-value choices in their self-interest – reelection, preserving the bureaucracy, keeping my job, et al.).
I wish Americans would have a much-needed and ongoing discussion about issues that affect us all, without the overheated rhetoric and personality disputes. Again, we need better Americans before we ask for better rulers. I despair that I will live to see it in an age of 8-second attention spans and flash mobs and (ever-shorter) sound bites.
May I be a bit self-serving, and request that perhaps the place to start such an America as I wish may be the University? That a rich and powerful people can both afford and need places to encourage such discussions, and University is at least one place to begin? And online forums or electronic townhalls or FB circles will never serve the purpose well, though may be a start? And, that University solely in pursuit of jobs and economic development misses the primary purpose of University?
You sound like your part of the swamp just keep swimming. I see my country moving in a positive direction that is hasn’t done in many years
You may wish to learn the difference between “your” and “you’re.”
Thanks teach
Honestly, would you want frump as a teacher of your offspring; your mayor, your school board president, an alderman, the leader of your church, your sheriff, your police chief, a member of the board of directors of your company, your boss, the pilot on your next flight, the captain of a cruise ship, your adult daughters boyfriend, a Red Cross leader, your stock broker, the manager of customer service (anywhere), a college professor, the university president, your home renovation contractor, the local property assessor, a property surveyor, a government auditor, your real estate broker, your primary care doctor, your cardiologist scheduled to do your surgery, your car salesman, your notary public, a bank teller, the military recruiter enlisting a relative, a fire chief, your next door neighbor, your brother in law, your son in law, a scoutmaster, the judge hearing your case, any member of a jury, the local district attorney, your state AG, your accountant, an ambulance driver, the manager of your 401K plan, a participant in a nuclear weapons program, your barber or beautician, a customer of your business, or anyone else having a role in your life? Do you agree that this man serves as an exceptional role model that you wish your children, parents, husband/wife, companion to emulate for the remainder of their lives? If you agree with the observations…
I know, it hurts to have people disregard your opinions. Meantime, enjoy the prosperity… 😉 I know I am… And reading your comments is great entertainment. Keep ’em coming… The longer the better! 🙂
You are just too clever, you sly devil. You must knock yourself out laughing at your razor sharp wit.
Tom: I have to say that your language with regard to those whose political opinions differ from yours does not encourage me to read the book. Sorry… no commission off this reader’s back.
I have no problem with those whose political opinions differ from mine. I have family members who don’t agree with me but they don’t insult handicapped people, they don’t grab women by their private parts, they don’t make false claims, they don’t tell others to beat up reporters. That’s what I object to and if you can’t see that, you’re part of the problem. I’m sick of this guy’s constant attack, attack, attack, all while he accomplishes absolutely zero. What has he actually done? Please tell me. I want to know. He takes credit for a tax reform bill that made the rich richer and called the federal deficit to skyrocket (I thought Republicans were against increasing the deficit). You can check the book out of the library if you’re too cheap to buy it but your refusal to read it only solidifies my opinion of Trump supporters: you don’t want to know the truth. You want to believe his rhetoric without ever once stopping to see if he’s telling the truth.
If that’s too harsh for you, I’m sorry. But I have reached my saturation point with this guy and with those who blindly follow him and who never, NEVER question his tactics, his honesty, his morals, or his disdain for our allies and his sucking up to despots and tyrants.
If you read my posts with any regularity, you should be aware (if you’re not in denial) that I make a point of defending those who disagree with me and their right to do so. I have done this many times but apparently you failed to notice.
I’m with Peter! A round of MAGA hats for all that are here. I’ll have ’em shipped to Tom’s
Do that. They’ll keep me warm when I toss ’em in the fireplace.
You’re too blinded by hate and rage to see the truth. Meanwhile MILLIONS of men and women are walking away from the sheer BS of the Democratic plantation that has enslaved, labeled, and divided us for decades. You better take a benzodiazepine tomorrow. Red tsunami is coming.
Uh, seriously? What happened to that red tsunami?
Interesting that not a single one of the negative responses here have indicated any willingness to actually read the book Tom suggested. Instead, it’s just attack, attack, attack. Very defensive reactions. It would seem to me that anyone with any grain of objectiveness or a willingness to learn both sides of an issue would take him up on his recommendation. But noooo.
What was it Jack Nicholson said in “A Few Good Men?”
By the way, I got the Kindle edition of the book for $12.99 – well worth the price and instant delivery for anybody interested.
Synthesis : Con man & a clown. 12 cans of diet soda-untold number of oreos-McDonalds as vitamins etc. Maybe someone can explain the wilful and pure ignorance that buys this sham. *new york kNOws trump*
