Even though no one appears to have taken notice of the fact, Bobby Jindal just won’t go away.
He’s like the little boy at the store trying to get his mom to buy him a candy bar but Mom has this way of ignoring him as only a long-suffering mother can.
You know the kid I’m talking about: “Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Maaaaaaaa-maaaa.”
Meanwhile, Mom just keeps on pushing the cart down the aisles as she shops for flour, sugar, roast, milk, etc.
Yeah, Bobby Jindal’s just like that.
While the rest of us go about our every day lives trying to make the mortgage payment, pay the utility bills and worry about how we’re going to pay for college tuition (thanks largely to Jindal’s having stripped state colleges of about 75 percent of their state funding), Bobby just keeps plugging along with his Wall Street Journal op-eds as if any of Louisiana’s beleaguered citizens were still listening.
It wasn’t enough that Jindal embarrassed the state with his Republican RESPONSE to President Obama’s State of the Union Address back in 2009 or that he humiliated himself with that numbingly silly ANNOUNCEMENT TO HIS CHILDREN in 2015 that he was running for President that he had the poor judgment to not only videotape but to upload to YouTube.
Nor is it sufficient that a few months back he found it necessary to summon his wife from their house to help him determine how the garbage can should be situated for curbside pickup. He had walked around the container several times in an attempt to figure out how it worked but finally gave up and called on Supriya’s engineering expertise, albeit hers is a chemical engineering degree.
And apparently, Bobby has yet to learn my email address because I still receive his missives, though they are appearing with less frequency than those daily updates about how well he was running in Iowa as he labored in vain to break through that 1 magical percent barrier in a crowded Republican field. Of course, if you went by his daily bulletins, you’d never have known he wasn’t a lock for the nomination.
So now, private citizen Jindal is churning out the op-eds for the WSJ. What remains a mystery is how the editors of a publication of such a stellar reputation as the WSJ could ever deem his opinions as being remotely relevant to the national debate. Bobby Jindal is history after having bankrupted this state for eight years.
Think back: When did he ever not have to institute midyear budget cuts? The answer? Never. Every one of his years was marked by draconian cuts to health care and higher education, a trend that has, despite the lessons that should have been learned, been carried forward by shallow-minded Republicans in the Legislature and a Democratic governor who has failed miserably in getting specifics of his message across to the voters.
On Sunday, I received this email from Jindal:
Dear Friend (“Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Maaaaaaaa-maaaa.”),
I recently wrote an oped (sic) for the Wall Street Journal discussing President Trump’s path to reelection. Those who write-off his chances should be careful. Increasing extremism on the democrat (sic) side combined with the strong potential of a third-party candidate is just the scenario President Trump needs heading into 2020.
I hope you will take time to read the full article.
Best,
Bobby (“Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Maaaaaaaa-maaaa.”)
Kasich Could Be Trump’s Best Hope
An independent candidacy could split voters who dislike the Democrats but can’t abide the president.
The Wall Street Journal
Bobby Jindal
“…But the base isn’t enough to win, and Mr. Trump so far shows little sign of picking up new supporters. Thus, a challenger is not sufficient—Mr. Trump needs a candidate who siphons off not only Republican Never-Trumpers, but moderates who might otherwise vote for the Democrat. Fortunately for him, the Democrats are making themselves increasingly unattractive to those moderates.”
The email ended with a link to click on to read the rest of the article.
He was a lousy governor and an even lousier candidate for President. I had no reason to believe he’d be any better as a political pundit, so I didn’t bother.
“Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Maaaaaaaa-maaaa.”
Perhaps we should write letters to the WSJ Editor and inform them that Jindal has proven that he is a loser in every way.
Now really, Tom. Maybe BJ is just looking for a constructive private-sector job. We should be encouraging him to be productive in his long retirement from elective politics. Otherwise, he might end up in an appointed position somewhere (outside of LA, obviously). That would be a worse outcome, don’t you think?
Perhaps you could give him some advice about his writing style? Or maybe suggest some other line of occupation? He’d have to learn that he’s not in charge, and that could be a substantial barrier. Maybe take up Uber or Lyft? Bet he has great stories, and would get good tips. Or bar tending, maybe?
I’m probably the last one to give writing style tips. Besides, Bobby at least is a pretty good writer (or as Sam Malone after having Diane remind him on a Cheers episode that Dick Cavett wrote “well,” not “good,” later acknowledged, Diane was “a well writer.”
Oh, please – do not wish piyush on innocent passengers of Uber and Lyft! Rumor has it he does not know how to drive after eight years of being ferried about by troopers in those big black SUVs he fancied while occupying the mansion. I laughed out loud reading a news story in which a woman who lives in the jindals’ posh enclave described her new neighbors leaving their house, with “Supriya in command of the wheel.”
He can’t write, he can’t govern, can’t drive, speaks too fast for broadcast news or teaching…I just can’t imagine any profession or job title that would fit. Two years unemployed, he probably has few prospects…nor needs any, since he seems to be financially secure, two years unemployed. Perhaps Tom could look into how jindal is living with no obvious means of support. Looks like he strolled out of state government the same way he strolled out of congress – having parlayed a fairly modest salary into millions, with “good investments.” Not sure anyone would trust him to invest and manage their life savings…..
Please Piyush, go away! Your track record in Louisiana has spoken volumes about you.
One does have to wonder why the WSJ continues to bolster Jindal’s relevance.
The last career news reported by many local papers had Jindal hired in April 2017 by Ares Private Equity Group, apparently based on his knowledge of health care. This appeared to be an actual job, but I was unable to find him as one of their current e mployees.
He is on the board of Granicus Corporation:
https://www.crunchbase.com/organization/granicus#section-overview
…and that would appear to be related to his government experience.
His Wikipedia page shows only politics and government in his career. His first private sector appointment after leading the state down the road to perdition was to the board of Cotton Holdings in Texas, and he apparently still serves on that board.
So, apparently at least 2 companies are willing to pay him to attend a couple of meetings per year in hope he still has some influence. And, apparently, the WSJ thinks he does.
Jindal described our current POTUS as an “ego-maniacal madman” when he was running for that job, but desperately courted him in efforts to become HHS Secretary and, as one article I read implies, now believes the rest of the Republican Party needs to dumb itself down and embrace the supporters of its current torch bearer. Perhaps Jindal needed to dumb himself down to get that cabinet appointment. Remember Rick Perry viciously attacked his current boss during the campaign, as well.
There are many ways Jindal could use the intellectual gifts with which he was born, but those are apparently beneath him. On the other hand, he seems to be living the good life based on a manufactured image without breaking a sweat -something many would define as success. And who are we to argue with success?
Jindal 2020?????????? He’s probably too smart for that, but, as our POTUS would say, “let’s see.”
Jindal is in the know and the money. Dark money mostly from religious non profits, filtered through the Koch Brothers, the Princes, et al. Check out his America Next (I think, trying to forget), too many connections, Trump’s America First straight from the playbook. The Repulicans have all the money, they think, and it does not matter to them who is president, so do not count little Bobby out, he is useful as Tom Cotton, to promote their hate and love of money. Remember the Russian’s came to La. and Texas to work the internet stories. ron thompson
